All social ventures begin with an idea. It’s what happens shortly afterward that could mean the difference between success and failure. Or even worse – lost money and time.

There’s no doubt that funding is the lifeline of almost any successful venture, be it a nonprofit or for-profit social enterprise. The question is, “Are you fund-worthy?” Why should anyone give YOU money to launch your social venture? Do you know how to craft a strong mission and vision statement or put together a pitch deck that will wow funders? If you want to found a nonprofit, do you have a theory of change? Have you done a competitive analysis so you’re aware of your competition? Bottom line…Do you know how to build a business? Here, we consider non-profits to be businesses, too!

This workshop will take you through a design-based approach to venture development. You’ll leave with an actionable plan with next steps in place so you avoid pitfalls and wrong turns. Shana will also share a list of ten reasons why nonprofits and social enterprise organizations fail so you don’t.

Note: This class has been designed for people exploring the possibility of founding a social impact organization. The presentation will focus on the essential steps a startup founder needs to focus on during their first 12 months.
